CORONAVIRUS: TOUGH NEW RULES
PRITI Patel is investigating how a British woman breezed into the UK after landing from South Africa. The Daily Express yesterday revealed how Sharon Feinstein passed through the e-gates at Heathrow Airport without being asked to show her Covid-19 test certificate or passenger locator form. Ms Feinstein flew from Johannesburg to Doha before then connecting to a Qatar Airways flight to Terminal 5. On December 24 the Government imposed a travel ban on South Africa over a virulent local strain. It is also on the new “red list” of 33 high-risk countries that will require quarantine in guarded hotels from next Monday. Yvette Cooper, chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee, demanded ministers explain “what is going on”. Responding, Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the Commons: “The Home Secretary is looking into this individual case and the measures that we announced today further strengthen the enforcement to make sure the rules that are currently in place are enforced more strongly and indeed that we have brought in a new system of rules to strengthen the safeguards at our border yet further.” Environment Secretary George Eustice told Today on Radio 4 “the obligation is on the carriers to ensure people have had a test”.
