Jailed killer Oscar Pistorius will be free in just THREE months.
And the Olympic athlete is lining up a job working with children. Pistorius, sentenced to five years in prison in October for shooting lover Reeva Steenkamp, will be released on strict parole conditions in August. His legal team claim the South African is so desperate to get his life back on track he wants to work with disadvantaged youngsters. A source said: “He is managing in jail. He’s isolated but hanging in there and praying to keep up his strength. He is keen to become involved in assisting children in whatever opportunity comes up. His legal team are trying to sort a job.”
Anger
Pistorius, 28, has been held in a single cell at notorious Kgosi Mumpuru prison in Pretoria over fears of attacks from inmates. After a six month trial, the Blade Runner was cleared of murder but convicted of culpable homicide. He will serve just a sixth of his sentence under South African laws. His solicitor Rohan Kruger said: “He will be on parole 10 months. He’ll have an anger management course.”
Kruger said parole conditions could include “don’t drink, go to church, no drugs”. The lawyer said of his life in jail: “His cell is three meters by two. He spends 18 hours a day in isolation, seven days a week. He has an hour a day for exercise.” He revealed Pistorius had rejected a string of film and book deals despite being broke. He said: “All Oscar has to his name is the shirt on his back. “His team were not paid the last two months, but we would not walk away.
He is penniless. Book and movie offers have poured in but he has declined.” Kruger and his team said the case cost the Paralympian at least two million Rand – £108,000. He said: “He sold his brand new Audi, all his art, his watches, even his guns I believe.” Pistorius shot Reeva dead through a door on Valentine’s Day, 2013. He claimed he thought she was intruder.
