But now it looks as if they could get hitched when her divorce from The Kills rocker Jamie Hince comes through. After going down on one knee in a posh restaurant, Nikolai is said to have gushed in Italian “I Love You”.
And Kate, 42, was pictured out in London this week puffing on a cigarette and flashing the expensive sapphire on her ring finger for the first time.
She joined Nikolai for a cosy trip to Italy last month, including an intimate dinner at Ristorante da Ivo – a celeb fave where George Clooney held his stag party.
And over a meal and £600 bottle of Barolo, they cuddled up until 1am, when Nikolai whipped out the ring.
Restaurant owner Giovanni Fracassi told how Nikolai booked the table under a false name. He waited until all the other diners had left before getting down on one knee – and all the staff cheered.
Giovanni said: “She is very beautiful and they were laughing and cuddling all night “He chose his special moment after they ate soft shell crab and white truffle pasta, and everyone had gone home at 1am.
“He shouted out ‘ti amo’, and then went down on his knee. It was very romantic. “He took out a ring and it was funny because he said it’s for after she is divorced.
“The young man wants to marry her in Venice at a little church they love, San Nicolò dei Mendicoli, which was in the movie Don’t Look Now. Kate came here with her husband, Jamie, last time but this man is a lot more loving to her. They were very much in love and she seemed so happy, I never saw her so happy before.”
But according to friends, the supermodel is in no rush to tie the knot again.
The couple have been dating since last autumn. Reports in May told how she booted him out of her home, with hellraiser Kate complaining his partying was too much even for her. She is said to have ordered him to attend rehab to get his boozing under control – which he did.
