Adele won the Oscar for best original song for her title track for 2012’s Skyfall. That was echoed by Sam Smith in 2015 with Spectre theme song Writing’s on the Wall – the first to be a UK No1. Sheeran’s Shape of You has sold more than 40 million copies – beaten only by White Christmas.
