FEW rock stars create a buzz quite like Bono and now he is set to take it to a whole new level – by keeping his own bees.
The U2 singer and his wife Ali Hewson want to become self-sufficient by producing honey and growing fruit and veg at home in Co Dublin.
On a romantic trip to Venice, the couple explored some private gardens for
ideas as they prepare their own version of 1970s sitcom The Good Life about Tom and Barbara Good who swap the rat race for self-sufficiency.
Speaking in Venice, multi-millionaire Bono, 57, said: “We have a four-acre garden on the coast and are growing our own vegetables, some fruit trees and we have our own hives.
“It’s a new project – bee keeping and growing our own vegetables. Ali is in charge of it. We also have a 300 metre-long property in the south of France where we want to set up bee keeping and vegetables.”
Their home in Ireland is in the upscale suburb of Killiney.
Bono and 56-year-old businesswoman Ali, who have been married since 1982, fell in love with Venice when they were guests at US actor George Clooney’s wedding to British lawyer Amal Alamuddin in the Italian city in 2014.
